The ProGear 225 Foldable Magnetic Upright Bike is first and foremost super affordable and it appears as though ProGear is trying to make workout equipment affordable for all because most of their fitness equipment are inexpensive such as the ProGear 300LS Air Elliptical with Pulse sensor that is also very affordable, you can check it out if you have a thing for elliptical machine. Affordability could be one of their strategies to establish themselves in the already more competitive market as they are new in it.
So, this product is all about affordability you might say, no, it has features that make it a great value to anyone that wishes to purchase it. Nevertheless, you don’t expect a commercial grade upright bike when you are purchasing it at an affordable price.
The Sunny Health and Fitness SF-B2605 Upright Exercise Bike is yet another alternative should you consider looking for another.
Aside from the fact that this unit is foldable, it is also compact with dimensions of 32’’ length and 17.5’’ width when it is fully set up. This is a perfect choice for those that may worry about space or live in small apartment.
It is designed in an ‘’X’’ shape while the two parts are joined in the middle with something like a piece of bolt and stopper. It is very much smaller when it is folded and can be literally stored in the most unlikely places and still remains inconspicuous.
This is also a very lightweight upright bike that could be handled or moved by virtually anyone. It only weighs about 15.7 kg which is 34.8 pounds when it is fully assembled. On top of the fact that it is a lightweight unit that could be moved by anyone it also has rotating caps on the front base tubing which also serve as transportation wheels for easy moving around while the rear base serves as stabilizers even as they also rotate as well.
This unit also supports maximum user weight of 220 pounds/100kg similar to most of the other bikes in the price range. See Ancheer Magnetic Upright Exercise Bike here.
The seat is designed in such a way that you can simply adjust it to suit you comfortably. It can be adjusted upward or downward with several adjustable positions. This is meant to accommodate users of different sizes. Folks who are 5’1 to 6’ tall can be conveniently accommodated. The seat or the saddle is well contoured with rubber foam material that ensures comfort. However, the seat can be replaced with another if necessary by simply removing the triangle plate attached to it from the adjustment bar.
The handlebars are non-adjustable multi-grip design. This is intended to give user options of comfortable hand placement during a workout. To further make the handlebars comfortable, it is covered or coated with rubber foam layer that optimizes comfort.
The heart rate sensors are embedded on the handlebars so that user’s heart rate could be transmitted to the console for heart rate data reading which will also help in maintaining target heart rate zone at all times during a workout.
This bike is equipped with a balanced, perimeter-weighted flywheel that provides smooth, consistent and quiet motion. The weight of the flywheel is obviously light and it is not stated in the manual but we presume that it should be around 8.5 to 10 pounds which could not generate a good momentum that offers good workout experience oppose to what you can get from other spin or upright bike with heavier flywheel. It is also important to mention that the flywheel is not bi-directional which means you cannot workout in reverse and experience any resistance.
This bike has a belt drive which is common with bikes with magnetic resistance. We do know that belt drive system is almost noiseless and does not require maintenance when compared with the chain drive system. Therefore, working out with this bike will put your mind to rest because you won’t worry about disturbing the family or neighbors and you can still listen or watch your favorite TV show while working out.
The bike has a solid 3-piece crank with steel arms nevertheless it is not recommended to do a stand up pedaling because it lacks the stability other heavier spin bikes have.
The bike is equipped with manual magnetic resistance system that could offer some level of challenging workouts. It is made up of small magnet brake that is attached to the tension knob beneath the handlebar via a steel wire. You can simply adjust to increase or decrease the resistance by twisting the resistance knob. There are 8 levels of resistance available which you can see on the tension knob. The highest resistance level is 8 which possibly give you the opportunity of experiencing a challenging workout that could burn a lot more calories when you engage in high-intensity training even though the ProGear 225 Foldable Magnetic Upright Bike is not the typical high-intensity exercise bike.
The pedals are self-leveling with adjustable straps for safety or prevention from slippage. It has also got regular threads that can easily be replaced when necessary.
The ProGear 225 Foldable Magnetic Upright Bike is obviously an affordable bike that still comes with a monitor that offers the opportunity to read and track your workout progress. Basically, you can view and read such data as the heart rate, speed, distance, Odometer, time, and calories burned. It also has scan function that rotates the workout data one after the other by keeping each on the screen for a while before switching to another one. However, you can also select any one of the workout data to display at all time
In order to have your heart rate display on the monitor you have to hold on the handlebars that have the heart rate sensors on them otherwise you can’t view your heart rate and this unit as expected is not telemetry enabled, which means it does not come with chest strap and is not enabled for that purpose.
The monitor is basic in design and has only one button that is responsible for rotating the workout data display when pushed. It is also used to have one preferred workout data show on the display at all times.
The monitor comes alive when it senses that the flywheel is working (but can also be put on with a push of the button) and also goes off when the machine is not working for several minutes. Reset the monitor by removing and putting the batteries back in the unit. Batteries are included upon purchase and it uses 2 AAA- batteries.
